If you’ve been told you need a furnace motor replacement, it could be good news. Chances are, the existing motor in your furnace blower is an old-fashioned PSC (permanent split capacitor) type that was the industry standard for decades. These outmoded motors consume as much as 500 watts of electricity, adding significantly to your heating costs. Today, the improved option for furnace motor replacement is an ECM (electronically commutated motor) unit. Smarter technology incorporated in these motors draws only about 80 watts of electricity. That means a big load is taken off your monthly utility bill.
