If your home isn't using a
zoned system for heating and cooling, you could be missing out on some great savings. With zoned heating and cooling, multiple thermostats and duct dampers are used to independently control temperatures in different zones or rooms. So, would your Hampton Roads area home benefit from a zoned system. To help you decide, here are a few situations where the answer likely would be yes:
Your home has large south-facing or west-facing windows. Large windows facing these directions can significantly heat up that part of the house while the rest remains cool. Depending on where your single thermostat is located, one part of your home is going to either stay too warm or too cold.
You house has more than one story. Heat rises, which means that if your home has more than one story, the upper level will be warmer than the lower level. If your one thermostat is located on the upper level, for example, it will shut down the furnace or heat pump before the lower floor gets warm.
Your family has individuals who prefer different temperatures. Each family member may have a different idea of what makes a
comfortable temperature. A zoned system can put an end to disagreements over how hot or cool a room should be, since individuals can control temperatures in the separate zones.
Some rooms in your home remain empty much of the time. A small family will often only utilize one or two primary rooms at any given time. This is even more so the case if one or more persons are home all day. With a zoned system, you can turn down or off the heating and cooling in unused rooms.
A newer addition has been built. Home additions often have separate heating and cooling requirements due to differences in insulation and building materials when compared to the rest of the house.
