One of the key concerns when adding onto your home or upgrading your heating/cooling system is how to distribute that heat or air conditioning. If your home has high ceilings or finished attics or basements, it is difficult and expensive to add or change the needed ductwork. This is easily solved with a ductless mini-split heat-pump system.
A ductless mini-split system consists of an outdoor compressor with a flexible small conduit that is snaked through the walls into individual rooms equipped with smaller air-handler units, sometimes referred to as "minis," allowing for almost soundless operation.
The flexibility includes the ability to create up to four zones per outdoor unit, allowing you to turn the heat or air conditioning on or off in each of those zones. If no one is using that particular room or zone, turn it off and save money.
Besides being able to fit into obstructed areas, the small size of ductless mini-splits is also a safety feature as well as aesthetically pleasing.
Then there's the energy efficiency of the ductless mini-splits system. A system that uses ducts can lose up to 30-percent of the energy produced through duct leakage. The ductless mini-split system doesn't have ducts, making your heating/cooling system even more efficient.
