Fall is here and 2016 is rapidly coming to an end. It's not too late, however, to take advantage of HVAC-related tax credits that you can claim by purchasing and installing several different types of equipment.
These federal income tax credits for energy efficiency are available for certain HVAC system and equipment upgrades, replacements, and new purchases. The credits are applied directly to your income tax as a homeowner. They cover purchases made in both 2015 and 2016. The expiration date for these credits is December 31, 2016. Energy Star-certified equipment automatically qualifies for these credits. Ask your tax professional for specific information on limitations and applications.
HVAC System and Construction Features: Must be applied to your principal place of residents. These credits do not apply if the equipment is purchased for a rental unit or a second home. Credits are for 10 percent of the cost of the equipment up to $500, or for a specified amount between $50 and $300.
You may also be eligible for certain state-level tax credits or efficiency incentives. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) for Virginia. You can also search by zip code at the DSIRE website. Russell's Heating & Cooling serves has been a top choice for professional HVAC services in Chesapeake and Hampton Roads for nearly 40 years.
