When it comes to water heaters, one size does not fit all. Determining the proper size is key when choosing a new unit. You will want to be sure it can provide for the usage needs of your household; nobody likes that feeling of cold water through the shower head when there are still suds in your hair.
Consider these basics when sizing your new water heater:
Type of system
Fuel type
It is important to consider the fuel types available and compare costs when deciding which water heater is right for you. Depending on the type you choose (one unit may use a certain type of fuel more efficiently than another unit, for instance), tankless gas units are more efficient than electric ones.
Consider your household's consumption of hot water when estimating usage costs. Electricity and natural gas are widely available and your home probably is already set up with access for one or both. Solar energy may be available based on your home's existing equipment, but talk with your HVAC contractor first.
