Eastern Shore, Virginia: (June 2008) Russell's Heating and Cooling, located in Chesapeake Virginia entered a team of volunteer cyclists in the MS150, a 150 mile 2 day bicycle tour, to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.
4 employees from Russell's Heating and Cooling participated: Buddy Smith, Brad West, Donnie Hinton, and Marc Sawyer. Also, Chris Baker from Virginia Air, one of Russell's Heating and Cooling's suppliers, rode in the event with the team from Russell's. Each rider had to raise a minimum of $250 to participate; the team raised over $7,300 in contributions.
All were able to finish the 150 mile ride, but were tired and complaining of "sore butts". One employee, Marc Sawyer was quoted as saying "I never want to see my bicycle again!" Fortunately, after several days of rest; all team members, including Mr. Sawyer have committed to do the ride again in 2009.
9 Russell's Heating and Cooling employees, also participated as volunteers at a Russell's Heating and Cooling sponsored rest stop along the 150 mile route.
Through the combined efforts of the rest stop and fundraising prior to the ride Russell's Heating and Cooling was able to raise a total of $8,141.00.
